The Food Pantry Garden had a wonderful 2012 – providing 1000 pounds of fresh produce to our local food pantries in Trucksville and Noxen.
Special thanks to Mandy Newman for coordinating all the volunteer efforts.
I would like to thank the Keystone Rescue Mission Alliance who sent a crew of men to work at the garden on the second Wednesday of each month. These guys were a very big help with fences, garden prep, harvesting throughout the season and garden clean up at seasons end.
A very big thank you goes out to the Red Rock Job Corps Center. Jackie Johnson and a crew of 8 to 10 students worked in our garden every week throughout the summer. They put in a combined total of about 350 hours in our garden. In the spring they worked with our garden volunteers who provided guidance on what they could help with. By the middle of the season they were able to work in the garden without any direction from us and they always did an awesome job.
Thank you to our Grow-A-Row partners who provided additional produce that we did not grow in our own garden.
We worked very closely with the Master Gardeners from Penn State this summer and many of them put in a great deal of time working at our garden training the Mens group and the students from Red Rock. Thank you for your input and guidance.
Thank you to all of our great volunteers who make this happen each year and everyone who made a donation to the garden. Your contributions, be it an hour of your time or 50 or more hours of your time, was greatly appreciated by myself and even more so by the clients of the food pantry who received the fresh produce.
I am looking forward to another great year in 2013. Garden planning will begin soon and I hope everyone will return again this summer.
If you want to help but can’t physically join us in the garden, please consider making a donation to this project. Check out our wish list to see what our curent needs are.
