Cooking From The Garden
My name is Meghan Maccarone, and I’m a senior at Lake-Lehman Jr./Sr. High School. Also, I’m an Ambassador Girl Scout, the highest level of Girl Scouting. I have worked at the Food Pantry Garden in the past, as well as the Noxen Food Bank.
One thing I have noticed while working at the food banks is that many of the donated fruits and vegetables aren’t taken; most people don’t know how to cook the produce or don’t know what dishes to prepare. For my Senior Project and my Girl Scout Gold Award, I have chosen to volunteer at the Food Pantry Garden.
In addition to tending the garden and eventually harvesting the produce, I will be submitting recipe suggestions that visitors at food banks can use to make different dishes for their summertime meals. In addition to these print recipes, which will be available at the food banks, the recipes in digital form will be here on the website for anyone to download.
But that’s not all! Not only will there be recipes, but I will also be creating videos of myself and others showing basic ways for preparing the fruits and vegetables that come from the garden as well as making some of the simple dishes. Please continue to check back on my tab, here on the website, for future postings.
I hope you find this helpful and enjoyable.
